Considered one of the United States's leading experts on the Cuban legal system, Debra Evenson brings unique expertise to the Firm.  She has written and lectured widely on Cuban law and its institutions.  The most recent of her numerous published works on Cuban law is LAW AND SOCIETY IN CONTEMPORARY CUBA  (Kluwer Law International, 2003), the first edition of which was published in 1994 by West Publishing.  For the last three years, Debra Evenson has taught a course at Rutgers University Law School (Camden) on the Cuban Legal System.

       Ms. Evenson was Associate Professor of Law at DePaul University College of Law from 1980 to 1992, when she left teaching to become counsel to the Firm to work exclusively on Cuba-related matters.  While at DePaul, Ms Evenson taught Intellectual Property as well as Comparative International Law.  In 1991, she was visiting professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain, where she taught a course on United States Trademark Law.  Prior to joining the faculty at DePaul, Ms. Evenson was an associate in the litigation department of Wilkie, Farr and Gallagher (1976-1979).  She graduated from Rutgers Law School in 1976, and from Barnard College in 1964.

       From 1996-2001, Ms. Evenson was president of the Latin American Institute for Alternative Legal Services (ILSA) which is headquartered in Bogota, Columbia.  During her tenure as president, ILSA organized important conferences related to legal services and human rights in Latin America, Asia and Africa and expanded its collaboration with human rights lawyers in Latin America, Central America and the Caribbean.  Ms. Evenson was president of the National Lawyers Guild from 1988-1991.
